Shoutbox For SE 4 With Smilies

13 March 2012 - 01:28 AM

Please take the time to +rep if you download and use. I have spent weeks creating this!

Shoutbox uses Mysql Database, Ajax, Javascript, Jquery. I didn't know where to put this, as it's not nulled...it's created. So move it if need b. :D

If anyone has downloaded and installed version 4.0.0 or 4.0.1, please remove those from your Social Engine site. If you plan on just installing the new one (4.0.2) over the old one, then make sure all your files are readable and writable so that when they copy to your server, they won’t be hindered. Most of all the files have been changed, so you will need to either remove it completely, or chmod your files. I personally suggest just removing it from your script and server, as some files won’t be used either. You can just go to your package manage and click delete on the current shoutbox you have installed. Then delete the shoutbox directory from your /application/widgets/ directory.

1. Members can now just press enter instead of hitting send.
2. Members can now click on “Smilies” to get a list of smilies. Just click the smiley and it will be placed into your text area.
3. Alternating colors are now possible for the message background to make it easier to distinguish new messages.
4. HTML Entities and some other protection have been implemented.
5. Fixed the sizing of the shoutbox for your smaller columns. Shoutbox can be placed anywhere in your site now.
6. Increased message removal time to 10 minutes. If a message is in the shoutbox for 10 minutes, it will automatically be removed from the shoutbox. So if you see messages disappearing, that is why. This does not remove them from your database. Please follow the shoutcron.php instructions to remove them from your database when you feel there are too many recorded messages stored.

The shoutbox is customizable in every area. If using in your sidebar column, it would be best to lengthen the shoutbox. If you need help with modifications, just ask in the forum. Color, sizes, width, length, margins, alternating colors can all be customized.

This has been tested on Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome. All testing was performed with a fresh install of Social Engine 4 with all the basic modules (groups, music, video, forums, blogs, classifieds, albums, and events). I do not know if there are any conflicts with any other modules or widgets that you may have installed.

Tar file included in Zip!

1. Unzip your ZIP file

--Includes Tar file
--Includes Sql file
--Includes shoutcron.php file
--Includes Smiley Directory with Smilies in a zip file
--Includes Install Shoubox.txt file with this information in it

2. Create your database with the Sql file. Make sure that it is in the same database as your Social Engine 4 Script

3. Edit your cn.php file and put your database information

4, Go to your Admin Control Panel and choose "Manage Packages"

5. Click "Install New Packages"

6. Add the packaged file that you downloaded: shoutbox 4.0.2.tar (included in your zip file)

7. Continue with the installation and enter your FTP details

8. When done installing, go back to your Admin Panel

9. Now go to your layout editor and choose the page you want to add the shoutbox to

10. Scroll to the bottom of your available blocks, under the "Widget" section. You will see shoutbox

11. Drag and drop the shoutbox widget where you want on the page. Don't forget to save the changes on your page

12. Upload your shoutcron.php to your root directory (or where you want it). The database will store every message that is written. In order to remove these messages, when there gets to be a large number of them, you can either manually remove them in your database, or follow the url below to remove then with your shoutcron.php file from your root directory.

13. Upload your smilies directory to your shoutbox directory.

To use shoutcron.php to clear database information:

1. Edit your shoutcron.php and put your database information in the marked spots

2. Go to your root directory url, or where you uploaded your file. http://yoursite.com/shoutcron.php

3. You will see a list of all messages that are stored in your database. You can scroll to the bottom and check "Select all" and then delete them all. Or you may check which ones you want deleted singly. Bookmark this page for easy access! *NOTE* You may have to refresh the shoutcron.php page to see that all messages were removed. Look at your shoutbox and you will see they are no longer there.

Chmod smilies directory recursively to 777
Chmod send_message.php to 777
Chmod display_messages.php to 777
Chmod send_message.js to 777
Chmod refresh_message_log.js to 777

Connection Error Localhost

03 March 2012 - 05:50 AM

I purchased a new desktop today. 64 bit with Windows 7. I'm used to using Xampp, but didn't see where it supported 64 bit, so I went with Wamp instead.

Everything installed perfectly with no errors, but when I go to localhost to get to the actual SE login, I get this error:

Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): The connection was reset.

Anyone have this issue before that's been using Wamp? Or is there an Xampp version that will support 64 bit?

Thank you.

It's just awful!

I lied.....

It's just so awful that Social Engine Forum has been so great to me LOL!

Seriously, they host my account and I generally get all the support and help I need...even though I have to do a bit of work myself at times :D Can't expect everything to be given freely on a sliver platter.

If you need hosting, I suggest using their services. They do a great job. They are fast in helping you as well when something goes wrong. Everyone has been so helpful in the forums too. Not just admins, but members alike. Everyone 'generally speaking' has been helpful.

i've noticed that if you change your keywords while searching, then you can more than likely find a quicker answer. Let's keep up the great teamwork and make it an even better experience for new comers :D

auth - key.tpl

09 February 2012 - 02:19 AM

I installed a fresh copy of SE 4.2 and when I try and add a module, I receive this error:

script 'auth/key.tpl' not found in path (/var/www/vhosts/mysite.com/mysite.com/httpdocs/install/views/scripts/)

How can I fix this? Thanks.
